What is the formula to calculate percentage decrease?
Subtract the final value from the initial value, divide that difference by the initial value, and multiply the answer by 100: [(Initial - Final) ÷ Initial] × 100.
Why doesn’t a 20% decrease equal a 20% increase to get back?
Because the baseline changes. If you start at 100 and drop by 20%, you reach 80. To return from 80 back to 100, you need an increase of 20 ÷ 80 = 25%.
