The Twitter Character Counter evaluates posts against the official 280-character limit of X (formerly Twitter). It uses Twitter’s weighted text specification, properly weighting URLs (23 characters via t.co), CJK and emoji characters (2 characters), and Latin characters (1 character).

Scenario: A post with 150 English letters and one long website link
English text: 150 characters (weight = 150).
URL: 75 raw characters → counts as exactly 23 weighted characters.
Total weighted length: 150 + 23 = 173 characters.
Remaining: 280 - 173 = 107 characters available.
Standard non-subscribed accounts have a limit of 280 weighted characters per tweet. X Premium subscribers can publish long-form posts up to 25,000 characters.
Any URL (regardless of whether it is 10 or 100 characters long) is automatically shortened by Twitter to a t.co link that consumes exactly 23 characters.
Twitter weights characters based on screen display width and informational density. East Asian characters and emojis take twice the visual width and convey more information per character, so they count as 2.
