Student Project

Hi! I'm a student developer building Calculat in my spare time. I was tired of searching for basic math tools and having to click through 10 spammy popups, loan ads, and cookie trackers.

What Is a Time Addition/Subtraction?

A multi-row time addition and subtraction calculator allows users to enter multiple intervals with individual positive (+) or negative (-) signs to calculate net working time, billable project increments, or audio track timelines.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Add as many time rows as needed using the "Add Time Row" button.
  2. Set each row operator to Add (+) or Subtract (-).
  3. Enter hours and minutes for each task or split.
  4. Review net cumulative duration, total minutes, and decimal billing hours.

Net Cumulative Time Summation

T_{\text{net}} = \sum_{i=1}^n (\pm_i) (H_i \cdot 60 + M_i)

Each entry is evaluated into signed minutes, summed into net total minutes, and factored into hours and minutes.

Worked Example

Scenario: A freelancer works 2h 30m (+), takes an unpaid adjustment of 40m (-), and works another 1h 45m (+).

Row 1: + 150 minutes.

Row 2: - 40 minutes.

Row 3: + 105 minutes.

Net sum: 150 - 40 + 105 = 215 minutes.

Result: Net billable time is 3 hours 35 minutes (3.58 decimal hours).

Tips & Key Notes

  • Use negative rows to deduct unpaid lunch breaks or idle equipment periods.
  • Audio engineers use multi-row time addition to sum individual song track lengths into an album runtime.
  • Decimal hours are rounded to two decimal places for standard corporate invoicing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert the final time to billing decimals?

The calculator automatically converts the resulting hours and minutes into decimal format in real time.

Can I delete a specific row?

Yes, click the red "X" button next to any row to remove it from the total.
